Why do a lot of places offer free wifi now, all they do is attract loiterers and loafers who come and take up?

space for hours and hours at a time without ever buying anything, it’s totally ridiculous! The place I wortk at just recently started offering free wifi and we’ve always got people loitering around] now with their little laptops taking up precious tables and not ordering anything. the people in suits that create these dumb policies have never worked at a restaurant in their entire life!

I was in a Borders a few days ago while I was in the US. There were about 20 other customers in the cafe using the internet while I was there and most of them seemed to be regulars. Everyone there bought a coffee and something to eat. I also bought a couple of DVDs and several books to bring back to Europe before I let the store. Sometimes, the free wi-fi does bring in paying customers.

Its because they want to lure people in to the restaurant and once they are in they may get hungry and instead of leaving they could just buy something from the place they are at. Also the internet usage is very limited (no games, no porn, nothing but plain text)
